Description

1/28 Saving Your Family Photos

Learn how to identify, preserve, and interpret the old photographs in your personal collection. We will rethink the role photography has had in our lives and develop a plan so you can confidently manage your collection, even if it includes thousands of images. This is a quick-paced, introductory workshop that incorporates authentic examples of 19th and 20th century images.

Attendees will:

- Learn the basics of the history of photography and photographic processes.

- Be challenged to think about photographic images in new ways and explore the many things

that can be learned from a single image.

- Learn how to best preserve, store, share, and display photographs to keep them safe, organized,

and accessible for future generations.

Each workshop comes with a specialized resource guide that is made available to all attendees.

With a non-linear but far-reaching career spanning 25 years, four states, and almost every aspect of

artifact preservation and collections management, Lindsey Smith loves to help people interpret,

preserve, and better understand the objects that make up our world. An increasingly sought-out public

speaker, Lindsey has spoken to dozens of groups across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, helping

audiences understand how to appreciate and care for their old photographs, clothing, and other

treasured heirlooms.

Lindsey has an MA in Historical Administration and advanced coursework in archives and records

management. She has been the Director of Collections, Exhibits, & Archives at Living History Farms, the University Archivist & Rare Book Librarian at Des Moines University, the Archivist and an Exhibit Content Developer at the Museum of Science & Industry in Chicago, and the Collections & Exhibitions Manager at the Iowa Jewish Historical Society. Lindsey spent a decade as a museum exhibits and collections

consultant and served on the Governor-appointed Iowa Historical Records Advisory Board. Until

recently, she was the Artifact Assessment Program Coordinator for the New Jersey Association of

Museums. Lindsey is the CEO of Hangerbee, a textile preservation supply company based in Mount

Laurel, NJ.
