Let me repeat that, because it is one of the key philosophical underpinnings of this book and, in fact my entire approach to crime and punishment: with the rare exception of the truly insane individual-- and these types are generally caught pretty quickly as oppose to experienced and organized serial offenders-- the predator, and particularly the sexual preadator, commits violent acts because he chooses to do so. The operative word is always choice. That's where I stand, and if you don't agree with that, or aren't open-minded enough to let me try to convince you in this book, you may as well stop reading right now.
