From Suffrage to the Senate
America's Political Women : An Encyclopedia of Leaders, Causes & Issues
Book - 2013
Book News
O'Dea presents a two book encyclopedia with over 900 entries on women and politics in the US, where politics is more about state power as general power dynamics of gender. The entries are mostly biographies, but also include court-cases, legislation, organizations, and social issues. The entries are consequently not very long and most are only a few pages long at most, with many less than a page long. Entries are arranged alphabetically A-N in the first volume and O-Z in the second. Several appendixes appear at the end of the second volume providing primary documents pertaining to women's rights, political parties and agendas, racism and discrimination, presidential appointees, and the military; facts and statistics; and a chronology of women and politics since 1638). This third edition adds 105 entries, while also bearing only O'Dea's authorship. O'Dea is a writer who has published other books on women and politics.
