Frustrating indie horror movie. It has all the makings of a good film, but it doesn't all quite come together. It builds slowly and then has too much stuffed into the second half, while the two plotlines never really cohere. Two girls are stuck at their Catholic school over a break and strange things start happening. Meanwhile, a mysterious young woman (Emma Roberts) is picked up by a couple and is making her way towards the school. The performances are strong, especially by Kiernan Shipka ("Mad Men"), and some genuinely creepy moments, but I wish the story were more fleshed out. Would make a good triple feature with "Hereditary" and "The Lodge."

I loved this movie. Great buildup with some extremely creepy moments that have lodged themselves in my brain and won't leave me alone. Relentless and malevolent, they just won't leave me be!

My husband the avid horror fan stopped it 5 mins in proclaiming what a load of crud, bad trailers = bad movie

I love "slow build" horror, but this is just slow and no build. I kept hoping for something to even startle me and all that happened was I got more and more bored. I literally (yes literally, not figuratively) fell asleep.

Just... ugh. I know that I went into this film with lofty expectations, as I had often heard it compared to Robert Eggars' "The Witch" (which happens to be my favorite film) in terms of atmosphere, complexity, and presentation/tone. Unfortunately, no dice. The atmosphere of the film is only sometimes effective, and is frequently shattered by unexpectedly goofy shit that was obviously unintentional, such as the strangely bad and clumsy dialogue. One of the film's biggest hindrances is the very poor implementation of its soundtrack; it is used as a huge crutch to establish the atmosphere, which would be fine, but unfortunately the music is simply not good enough to warrant this, and it turns the whole film into a total bore while you wait for something to happen. I love slow burn films, especially slow burn horror films when they're executed well, but it's a very fine line, and this film unfortunately falls on its face in that regard. The performances were alright at least.

I am ashamed having been so patient and a sucker for having seen this thing. It doesnt deserve to be called a movie. I think from now on everything will be better for me, because i have already seen the worst garbage, rubbish that can be. This is a scam. They should compensate us for the waste of time. I have an idea, we, the cheated spectators, could follow a class action against the producer.

total droning garbage. worse than I thought it would be but stuck around for the end to see what it was all about. totally brutal, stupid and unredeeming. 0 stars.

You have to really like atmosphere and slow build up where you don't really know what is going on for most of the movie. This movie was great and I could not look away. Definitely one that will make you think and consider a re-watch. It's definitely not for everyone, especially people who need the really in your face kind of horror.
