I'm not sure what the newfound fascination is with Taika Waititi (or whatever his name is), but it is deeply misplaced. This movie was boring, meandering, badly acted, and terribly directed. Do yourself a favor and skip it!

"Jojo Rabbit" a film by New Zealand director Taika Waititi is a coming of age/political satire film about Johannes "Jojo" Betzler, a Hitler Youth member and ardent Nazi, who lives with his mother Rosie (played by Scarlett Johansson). The film shows the world of Nazi Germany through the eyes of a ten year old boy and with it the certain nativity that would bring with it. As the movie goes on Jojo begins to come face to face with the evil of the Nazi regime and his perspective starts to shift. The film is replete with lots of touching moments and soft humor despite the growing violence of the world around Jojo. I would recommend the film, I think one should keep an open mind to what Waititi was trying to accomplish with this film, which was to challenge people's beliefs and assumptions.

All the depth of a Saturday Night Live sketch. All the historical research ten minutes on Google will buy. If you want to see how comedy and tragedy can be beautifully mixed in a Nazi-era film, see Roberto Benigni's "Life is Beautiful", and skip this high school dreck.

This movie won me over even though I tried not to like it. The character Jojo was very likable. I didn't expect to like this.

Pile of crap and waste of time. There's nothing funny about it. I don't think one can or should laugh at such an atrocious evil man who killed millions. And no it wasn't well done. Some things are not to be laughed about. Those who do are completely ignorant and terribly disrespectful to those who died and their families. This is the film equivalent of mockery and blasphemy.

This film didn't work for me. It was partly humorous in the quirky way, if that's what you like. But then there were sudden shifts in mood that made it depressing and the ending wasn't very satisfying. The child does a fine acting job.

Chose not to wade through what started to not be funny, ending after 5 minutes---where some guy was beginning to spew words to kids at a camp---to possibly find it better than I thought. Not even at a half star for me actually...as well agreeing with RescueDog's report.

I don’t see anything funny about Nazis. The more people see them as comical, the more likely it is for history to repeat.

I started watching this movie thinking that I would not like it. However, the acting and the story won me over. Quite an original movie, and very well executed.

Jojo Betzler: I said to draw where Jews live. This is just a stupid picture of my head.
Elsa Korr: Yeah, that's where we live.

Elsa Korr: I don't know anything about being a woman. Is that what it is? You do things like drinkwine?
Rosie: Sure. You drink. Champagne if you're happy. Champagne, if you're sad. You drive a car. Gamble if you want. Own diamonds. Learn how to fire a gun. You travel to Morocco. Take up lovers. Make them suffer. You look a tiger in the eye. And trust without fear. That's what it is to be a woman.

You're not a Nazi, Jojo. You're a ten-year-old kid who likes dressing up in a funny uniform and wants to be part of a club.

Rosie: Love is the strongest thing in the world.

Jojo Betzler: I think you'll find that metal is the strongest thing in the world, followed closely by dynamite, and then muscles.

Jojo Betzler: Nothing makes sense anymore.

Yorki: Yeah, I know, definitely not a good time to be a Nazi.

38 quotes in IMDb already. However, equally memorable are those quotes in many scenes as comic exclamations, e.g. the kicks exhibited by Jojo and Rosie. Other examples are when Jojo and Yorki reunited during the liberation battle:

Jojo?
-Yorki! Thank God. I thought you were dead.
No. It seems like I can never die. I'm gonna go home and see my mother. I need a cuddle.

Or the scene after this simple quote between Jojo and Elsa:

What do we do now?
