🛸 A classic and influential science fiction movie, it should be compared and contrasted with "Invaders from Mars," which came out three years earlier. That classy movie shows the viewpoint of a little boy as the Martians arrive, and brainwash the residents of his small town. Hint: Both movies have a subtext about McCarthyism. They play on the fears many people had of Commies converting ordinary Americans to Communism. Another way of looking at it, is that it exploited fears of creeping conformity to a 50s suburban ideal. - Am I interested in what you thought when you saw it in 1956? OK, Boomer!
