Such a funny movie! Great performances by all and the concept of the film overall was interesting. WWII and the rise/fall of Nazism as seen through the eyes of a child is a perspective seldomly seen in film. Some people here say that they didn't like the film because they don't find Hitler/Nazis to be very funny. That isn't the point of the film. Taika Waititi is Jewish. Obviously he wouldn't think they're a bunch of comedians in uniforms. The point of the film is to show, despite how dangerous Hitler and the Nazis actually were, how utterly ridiculous Nazi culture, politics, and policies were. They're literally making fun of Hitler and the Nazis and how stupid they were/looked/sounded. At the same time, I found the story to be very heartwarming, thanks to the depiction of the mother/son relationship of Rosie and Jojo. Jojo is a staunch Hitler fanatic, while Rosie is the opposite. It was interesting to see how she, as a member of the resistance fighting against the Nazis, parents a staunch Hitler fanatic. There was also the relationship between Jojo and Elsa, which also served to teach Jojo about how Hitler isn't someone who deserves adoration. Honestly one of the best films I've seen. It deserves every bit of the praise it's getting!
