He's best known for his role of Sulu on Start Trek, as well as a champion for civil rights, but many don't realize George Takei was imprisoned in an internment camp as a child. His story is that of racism in our country that grew to the point that people were forced against their will to live in fenced in prison camps. It shows how easily this event could repeat itself, how this could happen to any one of us. His story is an incredible testament to the human spirit. It shows the power of fear as fuel for racism and oppression, and it also gives us an idea of how George became the actor and humanitarian we now know. This is a deeply moving book that brought me to tears. The lessons within this book are for everyone, American or not, young or old, lest we forget the mistakes of our past.
