Another wonderful bit of history by Philbrick - one of the best modern/current story-telling historians. In high school we learned and then forgot the French fleet was important in the final US victory. Philbrick argues conclusively the French were instead vital and essential and that the Revolutionary War would not have been won without them. While the book sets up enough of a prelude for the unknowing reader to understand why Yorktown came about, it primarily covers the battle itself and the French role in it, on land, but mostly at sea.
