I found this a hard book to read, but worth the struggle. It follows a portion of the life of a single central character, Theo. The book begins at a moment when a young Theo suffers a great loss and commits a great crime. From there, the…

Goldfinch is the best story I've read since Owen Meany! Richly satisfying, totally compelling, this novel held me in its grip through all 771 pages. Tartt's detail took me into worlds I never knew existed. Her characters helped me…

Like the painting from which it takes its title, Tartt's new novel shines with a luminescence that will undoubtedly last down the generations. This is sure to be her masterpiece, a huge complex work that unwinds with the steadiness of a…

This was a fantastic book. Interesting and varied throughout, the author did a really great job. I tore through it. The last 30-40 pages are a meandering philosophical wrap up I could have done without, but that's just a minor negative.…

I found this novel readable. Though it is a long read I could not put it down, which of course is a good thing. I'm thinking of reading her other novels. Thanks.

While waiting to receive this novel I read quite a few reviews that gave differing opinions ( as it should), and one or two caused me to think I read a completely different novel. It had been described as dense, complex, overly long. With…

This book is like several books, all equally compelling. Characters like Boris and Hobie are richly drawn. I was casting the movie in my head, but fear it would be too long to watch.

I don't know why everyone is badmouthing this book. I thought it was fantastic. I got it as a quick pick at the library thinking oh I'm not gonna finish this in a week. But I did. Couldn't put it down. Great story of a uniquely lonely…

A patron review from the Adult Summer Reading Game: "A young boy is caught up in a terrorist bombing in a New York museum. From the blast, the famous painting "The Goldfinch" becomes part of his life and tribulations. An epic novel with…

One of the best novels I've ever read. Stunning writing. I'm so happy it won the Pulitzer Prize. If it takes Tartt another decade to write her next novel, so be it. It's worth the wait.

Ms. Tart: HIRE AN EDITOR!! This book was overwritten, boring, & tedious. The beginning starts out great but then loses the plot. I thought this was going to be an exciting thriller. How wrong I was. Anticlimactic.

Loved her other books. I was looking forward to this one. But it bored me so much, after reading the first hundred pages , I found myself avoiding the table where the book lay, so I wouldn't have to read any more of it. Yes, it was that…

I really enjoyed this book although I do agree it was overly long and could have done with a good editor. However the story and the writing is good, somewhat reminiscent of Great Expectations with a touch of Bleak House. Not as good as The…

This book is quite long and hard to get through. None of the overly-described characters are grand enough to keep you caring for the duration. It wasn't terrible but, not great either. When it was over, I was more impressed with myself…

The book was wonderful until Theo grew up. Once he was an adult character was more difficult to like. I think Ms. Tartt should have had all the "action and intrigue" as a fifteen year old. The author is excellent at character…

I listened to the Goldfinch and I highly recommend it. The reader is excellent. He never wavers from the voices. He never carries over a character's voice to the narration. He's just really great. The book won a well-deserved Audie award.…

I so looked forward to reading this book. It began well but quickly evolved into long paragraphs of endless description. I soon lost empathy for Theo. The greater portion of this book is devoted to describing multiple drug induced…

It took me a while to get into this book, but in the end I couldn't put it down. Tartt's character descriptions are so vivid that I felt like I was in the story.

Extraordinary - if a bit overlong - novel. It has three of my favorite themes: art, New York, and homage to other books, notably Harry Potter. Once you start listing the Rowling references you can't stop! I agree that some of the…

Note to people waiting for this book: DON'T. I am so dissapointed. If you like to find out how a 15 yrs old boy abuses drugs, 3/4 of the book is just that. The painting?? don't know, must have missed that page....

This book needs an editor. The premise of the story is excellent, but why are so many pages devoted to the drug scene. We get the picture, so why do we have to wade through so many pages before the story continues?
